When I went to school, I was called “nerd” and “geek” – it was not a good thing.
Here, however, it says:
“Some of those who self-identify as nerds and geeks look back nostalgically on the time their status felt rebellious, says Benjamin Nugent, author of American Nerd: The Story of My People.”
Ah, how easy it is to forget! Being beaten up, not by parents, but other kids for rebelling against the inherent power structure…
At any rate, this particular reapprobation of words’ meaning is great news for sciencey kids, and make no mistake! Truth be told, that is the actual reason for me to share this with you, too. 🙂
