When growing up, I thought accountancy was boring. Becoming a researcher, spending nights looking at lines and points on screens during experiments, I realised that accountancy was probably really exciting, comparatively.
Then I met a cook. She told me that working in a fancy kitchen isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. The end result can be fascinating, but the way to that end result is about as boring as it gets – unless, of course, you’re a cook and love the very fact that tedious work can lead to something extraordinary.
Enter Gaia, the Milky Way survey. Accountancy and astrophysics. To me, it’s just purely awesome—
“Astronomy”, really. 🙂
